‘Plastic Free Day’ was set up in 2018 by Alex Rhodes of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. The aim was to raise the awareness of how much single use disposable plastic we use in our everyday lives and then re-educate the local community by gaining their commitment to go ‘plastic free’ for 24 hours.

Inspired by David Attenborough’s Blue Planet 2 on the BBC in 2017, which brought to life the reality of what damage we are doing to the planet, in to peoples homes and lives. The commitment from a local primary school – Hook with Warsash CofE Academy, and many local businesses, led to a successful event with the support of many children taking time to understand and absorb this important message.
